HYBRID: Heisenberg‘s Path to Quantum Mechanics

Topic: In the summer of 1925, Heisenberg wrote the paper „Über quantentheoretische Umdeutung kinematischer und mechanischer Beziehungen“, which laid the foundations of quantum mechanics. This talk will show how Heisenberg’s path can be reconstructed and understood, based on the letters he wrote in spring and summer of that year, culminating in the famous epiphany on Helgoland.

CV: Alexander Blum completed his PhD in theoretical particle physics in Heidelberg. Afterwards he joined the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science to conduct research on the history and foundations of modern physics. Since 2017, he has been leading a Max Planck research group focusing on the history of the search for the world formula.

Following the lecture, there will be a get-together where participants can exchange ideas with each other over pizza and drinks in the Remise and the garden of the Magnus-Haus.
