Steven Becker - Board Member for Doctorate
Steven is 24 and doing his PhD in Erlangen.
What would you like to achieve in your resort this year?
For the coming year, I aim to establish a doctoral college, a career orientation seminar and a series of workshops. In addition, I would like to expand the exchange with the International Affairs department in order to simplify access to foreign countries for doctoral students. For this purpose, the already existing wealth of international experience within the jDPG should be made more easily accessible.
What do you like to eat for breakfast?
Pancakes with blueberries, bananas and few chocolate chips
What book are you reading now/was the last one you read?
At the moment I am reading "Reise in die Äquinoktial-Gegenden des Neuen Kontinents" by Alexander von Humboldt. It offers an exciting insight into the working methods of earlier natural scientists and explains the problems they had to overcome. Already after the first hundred pages one realizes in which privileged framework conditions we are allowed to do research nowadays.
What do you do besides physics?
Besides physics I like to cook, learn piano and boulder. Furthermore, I am engaged in another volunteer club and work on small data analysis projects.
