Founding Fathers
What began in 1845 with six young scientists from the colloquium of Gustav Magnus as the "Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Berlin", became the "Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft" with meanwhile about 55,000 members.

DPG Spring Meetings 2020 cancelled
Due to the worsening situation regarding the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the beginning of March, the meetings of heavy hearts had to be cancelled. Parts of them were made up virtually.

Corona-Lockdown: Kestrels instead of conference guests in the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef
In the quiet weeks after mid March a pair of kestrels found their new home on the premissses of the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef.

The fourth year of "Leading for Tomorrow", the DPG executive programme, this time took place under the familiar complicated boundary conditions. Participants, trainers and organisers took up the challenge and grew together virtually.

Together with many journalists, the DPG experts followed the live broadcast of the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Physics in the Magnus-Haus Berlin as well as via a video conference call.

30 years of reunification
On 20 November 1990 the DPG celebrated its birthday for the second time this year. Thirty years ago, the Physical Society of the GDR (PG-DDR) and the German Physical Society (DPG) merged to form today's DPG.
