Fellowships for early career physicists from Middle and Eastern European countries

As the fellowships are aimed exclusively at young researchers from abroad, the call for applications is only available in English.

DPG Spring Meetings are regularly among the largest physics-conferences in Europe. In 2025, four DPG Spring Meetings will take place – each on different physical disciplines.

Thanks to the support of the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation DPG offers fellowships for early career physicists from Middle and Eastern European countries to participate in these conferences.

Eligible are

  • Early career physicists approaching their PhD or up to 6 years after obtaining their PhD,
  • who are member in the physical society of their country (or member of the European Physical Society or the Physical Society of another European country),
  • who are ready to contribute to the DPG Spring Meeting (typically by presenting a poster or a talk of their work) and
  • who work in one of the following countries: Member countries of Balkan Physical Union (Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey); Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.

Application

  • Online via this application form.
We ask for personal data and an abstract of the work you intend to present at the Spring Meeting. Please add a letter of recommendation from your supervisor, your home institute or the leader of your working group.
  • Deadline for application: 1st November 2024

Selection process

A jury of DPG will assess the applications and select up to 50 persons for a fellowship. All applicants will be informed until 18th November 2024.

Fellowship

The fellowships covers:

  • The conference fee,
  • costs for travel and accommodation - upon presentation of appropriate receipts and up to a maximum of € 520.00 and
  • a daily lump sum of € 30.00 for up to 6 days.

Please notice

  • Fellowship-holders are requested to choose among the four DPG Spring Meetings the one which fits best their scientific activities.
  • Fellowship-holders have to organise travel and accommodation by their own – DPG cannot assist in organising the trip.
  • However, upon request DPG will provide the fellowship-holders with an invitation letter for visa purposes and also with a health-insurance for the time of the conference.
