Description

Fabian Klein received his BSc, MSc and PhD (2018) from Heidelberg
University. In his PhD he dealt with high performance simulations of an
accretion disk surrounding an active galactic Nucleus with a nuclear
star cluster (fluid dynamics + N-Body simulations). After his PhD he
initially joined Telespazio Germany GmbH in 2019 in the role of a
software developer deployed to DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (German
Air Traffic control). In 2020 he switched to an internal postion at DFS
Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH working in the same role. He deals with
developing the air traffic management system iCAS.

This talk will give an insight into working as a software developer in
the field of aviation as a physicist. Apart from discussing how the
skillset of a physicist can be beneficial for a software development
position and the integration into a team with different background this
talk will also talk about career decisions such as changing your
employer and salary negotiations. Moreover, the special challenges and
opportunities of the highly regulated field will be discussed. All of
this should help you to make the decision if you want to persue a career
path outside of science or stay within science.
