HYBRID: Integrated measurement devices based on atomic gases for field and space applications

Topic: In our group we focus on the development of compact and robust atom-based measurement devices for field and space applications. These sensors use the high-precision spectroscopy techniques with atomic ensembles either at room temperature or - by means of laser cooling - close to absolute zero. Typical sensors and their fields of application are optical clocks e.g. for timing, navigation, and data synchronization, or optically pumped magnetometers for medical technology and geophysics. We will give an overview on our activities.

CV: Markus Krutzik is head of the Joint Lab Integrated Quantum Sensors operated by Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The physicist received his PhD from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in 2014, and has ,amongst others, conducted research at the University of Californian, Berkeley, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena.

Following the lecture, there will be a get-together where participants can exchange ideas with each other over pizza and drinks in the Remise and the garden of the Magnus-Haus.
