The field of exoplanets had an exponential growth over the past decades. With over 5000 exoplanets discovered to date, exoplanet science is shifting towards in-depth characterisation of individual exoplanets to better understand the origin of exoplanets. The powerful James Webb Space Telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope and high resolution ground-based facilities have made breakthrough observations, revealing a diversity of exoplanet atmospheres. The characterisation of exoplanet atmospheres provides vast information on the formation and evolution history of planets. Measuring the chemical composition and thermal properties in exoplanet atmospheres provide valuable constraints to study planetary climates and important building blocks for planet formation.
This one-week summer school targets students and early-stage researchers who wish to learn about exoplanet atmospheres. Our expert speakers will give daily lectures on topics including a general introduction of planetary atmospheres, methods and instrumentation for exoplanet atmosphere observation, and chemistry and climates of atmospheres. Participants will attend hands-on sessions dedicated to the practical aspects of characterising exoplanet atmospheres, from data handling to analysis and results interpretation. By the end of the school, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of the field of exoplanet atmospheres, as well as state-of-the-art tools and methods used to characterise a diverse spectrum of atmospheres.
