Call for support: plenary speakers and special symposia at the DPG spring meeting 2023 & website of the Division of Molecular Physics
Dear Members of the DPG Division of Molecular Physics,
We hope you are all doing well and can enjoy doing physics without (severe) COVID restrictions again. In this first info email by the new Division of Molecular physics chairs, we wish to provide info about divisional matters and preparations for the upcoming Spring Meeting in Hanover in March 2023.
If you are a native German speaker, as most of us will be, we hope that you are okay with our information emails being distributed in English. We assume that everybody will understand the English without problem, but we are aware of our non-German members for which the "Scientific English" information is a lot easier to access. Please feel free to respond in German or English.
We hope that many of us will actively support the division and that we will jointly create a strong and bright picture of Molecular Physics in the DPG and beyond. Therefore, please carefully consider the following points and provide your feedback on these and any further matters you might see.
Please suggests plenary speakers as well as topics and speakers for special symposia for the DPG spring meeting in Hanover, 06.–10. March 2023. As I was just informed, we need to bring up suggestions for special symposia and plenary speakers at a first meeting in Hanover within the next few weeks, and a final decision by the section will be taken before 1. August 2022. I apologize for the short notice, but my previous requests on information were answered as "information will come in time", while now we were informed on short notice about this process and timescale. Please be reminded that special symposia typically cover, and are co-organized across, two or three divisions present at the meeting.
In all suggestions for symposia and plenary speakers, please provide an abstract of the topic and presentations and for the symposia a list of key speakers.
Furthermore, we started to update the Division of Molecular Physics website https://www.dpg-physik.de/vereinigungen/fachlich/samop/fvmo, including the previosuly very outdated page on relevant research groups contributing to Molecular Physics in Germany: https://www.dpg-physik.de/vereinigungen/fachlich/samop/fvmo/info
Therefore, please send us all relevant info still missing from that page as well as any updates or comments regarding the existing content. In first instance, please send further research groups to be included in the list in the format AK <principal investigator> [group name], city [,country], <URL group website>
Of course, please also report all mistakes we might have introduced in the page/website.
Please let us know if you have further suggestions on improving the presentation of the Division of Molecular Physics at DPG meetings, further scientific conferences, and outreach to politics and the general public. Please keep in mind that we also need volunteers to actually perform these actions and suggestions to that end are also always welcome.
Moreover, it would be great to attract more scientists to become member of the DPG Division of Molecular Physics and thus please spread the word and feel free to forward this email as well as our website URL https://www.dpg-physik.de/vereinigungen/fachlich/samop/fvmo
We look forward to your feedback and generally active interactions and and interesting discussions with all of you for the upcoming years!
This includes an (hopefully) in-presence meeting in Hanover in March 2023, please mark your calendar.
Best regards,
Jochen Küpper Alkwin Slenczka
