Founded in 1951: See, e.g., page 2 of the minutes of the Executive Board meeting on 18 Sep 1951 in Karlsruhe. The "Verband Deutscher Physikalischer Gesellschaften" ("Union of German Physical Societies"), founded on 13 October 1950 in Bad Nauheim, during its Karlsruhe meeting in September 1951 installed eight divisions ("Fachausschüsse", now "Fachverbände"), namely: Acoustics, Semiconductor Physics, High Frequency Physics, Nuclear Physics and Cosmic Rays, Crystallography, Gas Discharges, Polymer Physics, and Low Temperature Physics. Details can be found in a special issue of "Physikalische Blätter", vol. 51, no. 1 (1995), devoted to "150 Years German Physical Society". In particular, the article by Wilhelm Walcher (pp. F-107 - F-133) gives an insightful account of the situation from 1945 to 1963 (when the "Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft" was re-founded).
