Session Types

Following session types exist at the DPG meetings:

  1. Symposium
  2. Focus Sessions (SKM)
  3. Tutorials

The divisions will collect proposals for the different sessions types. Symposia and tutorials will be discussed and decided upon in a joint meeting of all divisions of a section. In addition you can suggest plenary speakers. The division chairs will decide independently on focus sessions and invited speakers (Hauptvorträge) in their individual programm. If you are interested in organising a session, please contact your division chair.

Symposium

Symposia at the DPG Spring Meeting are the most prestigious session formats. They consist of 5 invited talks and take place in the larger lecture halls. Therefore, symposia should be broad enough to cover the interest of several divisions and be of high interest to many people. When submitting a proposal, the timeliness and interest of the topic should be well explained. A symposium is typically organiszed by up to three people from different universities. Please also consider diversity when chossing organisers and speakers.

Focus Session

Focus Sessions consist of a combination of (usually 5) invited talks and several contributed talks. They are embedded in the regular programme of main division, but often other divisions join in for focus sessions. Also for focus sessions, the proposal should address interest and timeliness of the topic. Please already consider diversity when writing a proposal.

Tutorial

Tutorials traditionally take place on Sunday afternoon and are dedicated especially for students, who are interested in an introduction into the respective semiconductor physic topics. Tutorials usually consist of 3-4 invited talks. Tutorials are an excellent opportunity for introductory talks and to fill students with enthusiasm for a research field.
