Atoms and Electrons in Space and Time
From experimental physics Prof. Dr. Peter Baum reported to us on 03. Mail 2022 in his lecture "Atoms and Electrons in Space and Time" about his field of research and the latest discoveries of his research group.
Atoms and electrons are the two most important basic components of all matter in our daily lives. But how do they move in space and time when, for example, materials deform, electronic circuits operate, or chemical reactions take place? The relevant dimensions are attoseconds and angstroms. In the Baum group, we combine an electron microscope with ultrafast laser pulses to make atoms and electrons directly visible during these movements.
